ASEAN Students Visit India (ASVI) is an annual program that is supported in collaboration among Ministry of External Affairs of India, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in ASEAN countries. In 2013, 250 students from ten ASEAN countries of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam were invited in this program.
Started in 2007, this program aims to enable ASEAN students to learn more about the modern vibrant India in economic, cultural, historical, leadership and academic issues. The program also focuses on building closer entrepreneurship partnerships among the youths, emphasizing business and academic exchanges in knowledge and creative industry sectors.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India believes that ASVI will be a perfect tool to build greater economic and cultural understanding between the two dynamic Asian regions. The previous ASVI have enriched the knowledge of the participants, providing them with new insights on the vast diversity of India’s people and cultures as well as a glimpse into the way the country manages various issues.
In ten days of the program, participants visited a number of financial institutions, educational centers of excellence, and business houses in several cities of India including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Agra and New Delhi. During the last 2013 program, participants visited Whistling Woods International, TATA Consultancy Services, Aptech Ltd., Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Bharat Biotech International Ltd., Sona Koyo Steering Systems Ltd., Infotech Enterprises Ltd., and Center of Good Governance of India. Participants were also invited to visit the tourist attraction such as the Taj Mahal, Golconda Fort, Shiparamam Craft Village, Dilli Haat, and Gateway to India.
